Garnish Cocktails with Edible Flowers

Edible flowers and fresh herbs are increasingly popular trends in cocktail garnishing. Edible flowers can be found in an array of varieties from pansies to miniature roses. Finishing off a cocktail with an edible flower is an excellent way to enhance the appearance and sophistication of a cocktail. Just plan ahead if you want to garnish cocktails with edible flowers, as it might be difficult to find a store that sells edible flowers; if all else fails, there are several vendors that sell edible flowers through Amazon.

Create a Fruit Garnish for Cocktails using Miniature Cookie Cutters

A strawberry or pineapple wedge placed on the rim of a cocktail glass is a rather common cocktail garnish; however, a little more creative way to garnish cocktails with fruit is to use miniature cookie cutters to create more interesting shapes with the fruit. This type of garnish works well for frozen cocktail or fruity cocktails served in hurricane glasses. Follow these steps to create a cookie cutter fruit garnish for a cocktail:

  1. Peel and Slice Fruit: The fruit should be sliced thin enough so that the cookie cutter can be easily inserted into the fruit, but not so thin that the fruit does not hold its shape when placed on a skewer. One-quarter inch slices are ideal for the majority of fruits. Also, consider using a variety of fruits for added color, texture, and visual interest; especially for cocktails served in hurricane glasses or highball glasses.
  2. Use the Miniature Cookie Cutters to cut out Desired Shapes: The miniature cookie cutters are available in a variety of shapes, such as stars, daisies, hearts, etc. In addition to the cookie cutters, a melonballer can be used to create a simple round shape to combine with the miniature cookie cutter cut-outs.
  3. Arrange the fruit cut-outs on a skewer or an arrow pick: Traditional stirrers will not work for this garnish, because it will be too hard to place the fruit on the pick and the pick will not hold its upright position with the weight of the fruit. Arrow picks are similar to stirrers, but they are sturdier and have an arrow on the end, making it easier to place the fruit onto the pick.
  4. Place the Cookie Cutter Fruit Garnish into the Cocktail Glass filled with Cocktail of Choice.
